Do not memorize Speaking topic

When you memorize something and you speak exactly the same information, it looks very parroted as half of your attention remains on the content you have memorized. The flow of memorized information looks very unnatural as your body language becomes shifting, your eye movement will shift frequently in order to retain the memorized answer and it becomes very easy for the other person to judge.
Moreover, while speaking the memorized topic, it will affect your fluency and you may fumble while remembering the words and speaking at the same time. It creates stress in your body language and it becomes quite evident to the examiner as it takes just a few seconds for the examiner to make that out. IELTS Speaking exam is designed in a way that you don’t really need to memorize the topics because the examiner is not looking for word by word essay type of answer rather he is looking for your spontaneity and command on the English language.

The pattern of each section of IELTS is different, the first round is your introduction, as it is about your own interests, your life achievements, so it is easy for you to speak on it spontaneously without mugging it up. Also, this round is an ice-breaker round, thereafter you become more relaxed and at ease.

Round 2 is an extempore round where an examiner will give you a cue card having a topic on which you have to speak on for 2 minutes. This round assesses you on your continuity of speech, how you frame your ideas and the way you connect all the pieces of the speech together.

Round 3 will have general discussion based questions which are based on the topic from round 2. The questions will be randomly asked by the examiner and he will evaluate you on your understanding of the question. Besides that, the examiner will check you on your grammar, pronunciation, logical reasoning in your answers, content relevance.

In all, going through the topics beforehand is always good to get the idea on how to frame the answers but memorizing the topics isn’t something which will help you score good bands as it is a test of your English language and not a test of your retention power.

So, always try to work on your grammar, pronunciation, fluency, and vocabulary as these parameters will help you frame good answers, that will lead to a good score.
